Since plastic bags and plastic wrap are NOT allowed in your recycling cart, here’s an opportunity to recycle them to help the city earn a free park bench made from recycled plastic materials through NexTrex!
Now through Nov. 12, 2021, a collection box for plastic bags and plastic wrap (see acceptable types pictured) is available at Anoka City Hall in the lower level just at the base of the stairs. Drop these items off M-F, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (regular business hours). Our goal is to collect 500 pounds or 40,500 of the plastics shown.
Visit NexTrex® for the full list of what can/cannot be accepted in this collection.
NOTE: ALL bags and wrap dropped off MUST BE DRY AND CLEAN – any contamination will ruin the entire collection and our efforts.
We have already seen several bags of garbage, food, plastic cups/containers, egg cartons, cardboard, etc. dropped off for the collection - THESE ITEMS CONTAMINATE THE COLLECTION!
Try these tests to see if your plastic is recyclable in this collection.
See if the package will stretch when you pull it. If yes, it can be included.
If it tears like paper, then please don't put in the bin.
Is the package shiny or does it make a crinkly/crunchy sound in your hand? If yes, do NOT recycle in the NexTrex® bin.
Reminder: DO NOT put any plastic bags in your curbside recycling container and do not bag your recyclables in plastic bags.
Thank you for helping us work towards a free park bench!
Thank you to our volunteers who have been sorting through the bags each week to ensure they are clean and dry!
