Commercial Cooling Rebate

Rebate Program Details

Manufacturers have high-efficiency cooling equipment that could fit into your plans to update or replace your commercial air conditioning system. Anoka Municipal Utility’s (AMU) Custom Efficiency program offers rebates on a variety of air conditioning equipment to make it easier for you to save money. 

Rebate Amount

  • Rebate amount for DX unit(s) are based on the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER2), Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio (IEER2) and/or the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER2) rating of the unit(s) and the Nominal Tons per unit.
  • Rebate amount for Rooftop Unit Economizer is based on RTU tons.
  • The maximum rebate amount shall be the lessor of 60% of the project cost (including equipment and labor) or $100,000.

Program Specific Rules

  • Load Reduction: Air conditioning systems must result in a net load reduction in Kilo-Watt (KW) usage from that of the existing system.
  • Usage: Equipment must be operated during weekday on-peak demand hours (6 a.m. - 9 p.m.).
  • Inspection and Verification: The Utility reserves the right to conduct inspections of any and all installations.  If the Utility finds that the customer has not complied with its rules any rebate the customer has received must be returned to the Utility.
  • Installation and Rebate Amount Limitations: Installation should be completed before submitting rebate application. In no case will the rebate paid by the Utility exceed the purchase price of the equipment. The maximum rebate amount shall be the lessor of 60% of the project cost (including equipment and labor) or $100,000. The Utility will issue rebates in the form of checks unless the utility account is delinquent in which a credit will be applied.
  • Invoice and Payment: The customer must notify the Utility and submit invoices specifying the quantity and price of all materials purchased, the date ordered, installation costs and applicable taxes. The invoices should also contain the contractor’s name and address as well as the customer’s name and installation address.
  • Equipment Eligibility Requirements: All equipment must be new and meet specification requirements.
  • Tax Information: The Utility will not be responsible for any tax liability imposed as a result of the rebate payment(s). Customers are advised to consult their tax advisors before submitting rebate requests.
  • Disclaimer: The Utility gives no warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to equipment operation, material, workmanship, manufacturing, or energy or cost savings. In no event shall the Utility be liable for any incidental or consequential damage. The Utility is not responsible for the disposal of air conditioning equipment replaced as a result of this program.
  • Privacy: Information contained in this rebate application may be shared with the Department of Commerce and the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency.
  • AMU does not endorse any particular manufacturer, product, or system design by offering these rebates.  AMU does not expressly or implicitly warrant the performance of the installed equipment.  AMU does not guarantee that a specific level of energy cost savings will result from implementing energy conservation measures or the use of products funded under this program.
  • The customer acknowledges that nothing contained in the application shall impose any liability on AMU for the work performed and information presented by the customer’s engineer, contractor, or vendor.  AMU is not liable for rebates promised to customers as a result of a contractor misrepresenting the program.
  • AMU reserves the right to inspect customer facility (i.e.) for installation of materials listed on this rebate application and will need access to survey the installed project.

How to Apply 

  1. Anoka Municipal Utility (AMU) provides energy efficiency rebates for the purchase and installation of qualifying air conditioning equipment.  Additional rebates, not listed on this application, may be available through our Custom Efficiency program which requires pre-approval prior to starting a project. Email us for pre-approval if applicable.
  2. A signed rebate application and detailed installation invoice(s) must be submitted to AMU within twelve (12) months of the invoice date. Invoice(s) submitted must include itemized quantity, price, manufacturer’s make and model numbers, and product codes for each material item and/or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specification sheets, along with copies of your itemized paid receipt(s) or paid contractor invoice(s) with manufacturer name(s), model number(s).  Annual operating hours and input wattage for old and new equipment must be provided as well. Rebate forms that are not entirely filled out, or sent without all required documentation will be considered incomplete, and will not be processed.
  3. The customer understands the program term is calendar year, or sooner if allocated funds from AMU are depleted.  Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please call us at 763-576-2904 before submitting your application to make sure rebate applications are still being accepted and funds are still available.  This program shall at all times be subject to change or termination without prior notice.
  4. Read the Program Specific Rules and to make sure your cooling equipment qualifies for the rebate.
  5. Print, complete, and sign the rebate application and submit with all required documentation. Do not include account number or other sensitive information with online submission. Only complete applications will be processed.
  6. Make and retain a copy of all materials including application and rebate forms and paid receipts for one year.
  7. If all the above criteria are met and verified, you will receive your rebate check as time allows.  The customer is responsible for paying the contractor in full.  Rebate checks are issued to the utility account holder only.
